Melissa listed her parents as being born in AL in the 1880 Census.

Based on other Martins in Census records, it appears that our branch moved from Alabama to Mississippi around 1843, then from Mississippi to Texas around 1850. Our branch could have come from South Carolina before that...

In 1870, Josiah C. Martin is living next to Isabella. One of his sons is Leonidas (or close to that). In 1880, there is a Lony Martin living with Isabella, and is listed as Simon's nephew. I believe this would have to be Leonidas, which would make Josiah Isabella's brother, Ebenezer's son. In 1850, Josiah C. is living in Tishomingo, MS with a Britton B. Barron. Josiah gets married in Cherokee County, Texas in 1855. Based on other Martins in Tishomingo the same year, it appears that branch of Martins moved from Alabama to Mississippi somewhere around 1843. A check of marriage records for Martins in Alabama shows two Martins marrying two Barrons--one in Sumter County, one in Lawrence. In addition, there are two earlier Britton B. Barron marriages, probably the father, in Lawrence County. A further check of Martin marriages in Lawrence County came up with one between Ebenezar Martin and Bershiba Fowler on April 22, 1834. Not sure that this is the right guy...our family tree records show he married a Wilson. Also, Josiah was born around 1827, and Melissa around 1830.
