"22. Samuel5 Gaines (Samuel,4 Samuel,3 Samuel,2 Henry1), … married, about 1744, Dorothy Fox, probably daughter of Abraham and Dorothy (Hollister) Fox of Glastonbury. Mrs. Dorothy (Fox) Gaines was probably the person who married Samuel Darte of Bolton; and she joined the Congregational Church at Bolton 28 Apr. 1765, coming from East Hartford. She married thirdly, 21 Feb., 1772, John Gibbs."
NOTE: The identification of Dorothy, daughter of Abraham Fox, as the wife of Samuel Gaines, was considered by Mr. Brainard to be probable. He further considered the identification of Samuel Dart's fourth wife as the widow of Samuel Gaines, also to be probable. The abstracts of the probates for Samuel Gaines and Samuel Dart seem to support those identifications.
