"22. Samuel5 Gaines (Samuel,4 Samuel,3 Samuel,2 Henry1), born at Glastonbury 14 Oct. 1723, died, probably at Havana, Cuba, 4 Nov. 1762. He married, about 1744, Dorothy Fox, probably daughter of Abraham and Dorothy (Hollister) Fox of Glastonbury. Mrs. Dorothy (Fox) Gaines was probably the person who married Samuel Darte of Bolton; and she joined the Congregational Church at Bolton 28 Apr. 1765, coming from East Hartford. She married thirdly, 21 Feb., 1772, John Gibbs.
Samuel Gaines enlisted 15 Mar. 1762 in Capt. John Patterson's company, to be sent to Havana, and it is on record that he died there 4 Nov. 1762. He owned thirty-nine acres, with a dwelling house, at Hartford, on the east side of the Connecticut River, in the present town of Manchester, which his administrators, William Fox and Josiah Fox, both of Glastonbury, sold to Timothy Cheney on 15 Apr. 1765. His estate was insolvent."
