    Dorothy E. (Chew) Spoonhoward, 89, of North Huntingdon, formerly of Herminie #2, died Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, in Briarcliff Pavilion, North Huntingdon.

    Mrs. Spoonhoward was born April 14, 1915, in Herminie, a daughter of the late Edward and Myrtle Loughner Chew.

    Mrs. Spoonhoward retired as head cook of the Village Inn in Adamsburg for more than 20 years. Mrs. Spoonhoward was a member of Herminie United Methodist Church and its Friendly Circle Bible Class. Dorothy had also served as president of the Residents Council at Briarcliff, where she resided.

    She is survived by her loving family: her daughters, Roberta Polovina, of Herminie #2, Judith Hoffer and her husband, Robert, of Madison, Bette Jeanne Harbaugh, of Sapula, Okla., Barbara "The Baby" Spoonhoward, of West Newton, and adopted #5 Diane Esasky, of West Newton; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; her brother, James Chew, of Herminie #2; her two sisters, Annie C. "Katy" Mellinger, of Herminie #1, and Jane E. Henry, of Greensburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.

    In addition to her parents, Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Wilbert M. Spoonhoward, in 1986; her infant son, in 1936; her son-in-law, Fred "Babe" Polovina, in 1998; her four brothers, Edward, Robert, Howard and Dwaine "Bud" Chew; and four sisters, Lottie, Twyla, Ruth, and Bud's twin sister, Lorraine.

    Friends will be received Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the BEATTY-RICH FUNERAL HOME INC., Main Street, Madison. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Roger Peterson officiating. Entombment will be in Westmoreland Memorial Park Mausoleum, Hempfield Township. The family suggests memorials should be made to Herminie United Methodist Church, 11 Pike St., Herminie, PA 15637 OR Briarcliff Pavilion Activities Department, North Huntingdon, PA 15642.
