Annie C. "Katy" Mellinger, 88, of Herminie, went to her reward on Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011, at her home. She was born Sept. 13, 1922, in Herminie No. 2, a daughter of the late Edward L. and Myrtle M. (Loughner) Chew. Katy retired from Bill's Dandy Dollar in December of 2000, after working for many years and actually starting at the company store in Herminie No. 2. Katy was a life member of the Herminie United Methodist Church. She also sang in the choir and belonged to the "Friendly Circle Bible Class," having served as treasurer for many years. Katy was also a member of the Herminie VFW Post 8427 Ladies Auxiliary and the bowling league for 45 years. She enjoyed bowling, but most of all spending time with her dear friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John T. Mellinger, in 1984; four brothers, Edward, Robert, Howard and Dwaine "Bud" Chew; and five sisters, Lottie McAlpin, Twyla Carroll, Dorothy Spoonhoward, Ruth Burns and twin sister to Dwaine, Lorraine Chew. Katy is survived by her three daughters, Nancy Mangeri (Samuel), of Kansas, Kathie Plack (Bill), of Herminie, and Susan McCall, of Florida; two grandchildren, Sarah Ann Mangeri and John Jay McCall; three stepgrandsons, Bill, Andy and John Plack; a brother, James Chew (Alma), of Greensburg; a sister, Jane Henry, of Greensburg; and numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. Katy's smile and laughter will be sadly missed by her family and all her friends who loved her dearly. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the JOSEPH W. NICKELS FUNERAL HOME INC., 404 Sewickley Ave., Herminie, PA 15637, 724-446-7251. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with Pastor Dale Roddy officiating. Entombment will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Hempfield Township. The Herminie VFW Ladies Auxiliary will meet for services at 3 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
