1970 - Newspaper Clipping: Viet Vet Dies In Area Crash. A 22-year-old Youngstown man was dead on arrival at Mount St Mary's Hospital at Lewiston late Tuesday night after his car crashed broadside into a tree. Dead is: Donald A. Buttery Jr, of 999 Balmer Road, Youngstown. Hospital authorities said the man suffered severe head injuries. Sheriff's deputies S. J. Carter and J. M. Gillam said their investigation disclosed that the vehicle had been traveling north in East Avenue about 10:10pm when it apparently went out of control on a curve, crossed the road and struck a tree in front of 3440 East Ave. They were assisted by officer John Eudice? of the Village of Youngstown Police. The victim was rushed by Youngstown Ambulance to Mt St Mary's where he was pronounced dead. Buttery was employed in the maintenance department of the Niagara Frontier State Parks Commission and worked on the Robert Moses Parkway. He was a veteran of Vietnam where he served with the 101st Sirborne Division. He is survived by his parents, Mr Donald A. Buttery and Mrs Ada Mae Buttery; a sister, Mrs Thomas B. Ross of Buffalo; and a brother, David A. Buttery of Youngstown. Also surviving are his grandmothers, Mrs Grace Buttery of Lewiston and Mrs Bessie Murray of Mesa, Ariz., and several aunts and uncles. Funeral services will be held at the Lane Funeral Home, Youngstown, Saturday at 1pm with the Rev Alvin Riemer of St John's Lutheran Church of Youngstown officiating. Burial will be in Riverdale Cemetery.
