2012 - Obituary: Daniel A. Buttery, age 62 of Lewiston died on Monday August 13, 2012 in the Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo from injuries he sustained in a motorcycle accident while returning home from the 2012 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in Sturgis, SD. Dan was born August 23, 1949 in Lewiston, the son of the late Donald and Ada Mae (Murray) Buttery. A lifelong resident of Lewiston he was a 1967 graduate of Lewiston Porter High School. He worked as a mechanic for the New York State Parks from 1969 to 1980. Dan then worked as a truck driver for North American Van Lines for 2 years. In 1982 he was hired as a Car Hauler for Leaseway/Anchor Motor Freight in Niagara Falls and worked there until he was injured at work in 1993. Dan retired young and enjoyed being with his family. A "jack of all trades and a master of most", Dan had many talents. He enjoyed working with his son, Daniel, restoring cars. He was a skilled welder, woodworker, mechanic, and fabricator. One of Dan's proudest achievements was remodeling his family's home that was built in 1905. A real "character", Dan enjoyed being a jokester and making people laugh with his great sense of humor. His gift of gab made strangers feel like friends and with his heart of gold he was willing to help friend and strangers alike. He was an avid NASCAR and NHRA fan. Dan's one passion was riding his Harley Davidson Rocker C. He will be deeply missed by his wife, children, and Ruby, Roxy, Gracie, Teddy, Chevelle, and Twinkie. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Valerie (Olszewski) Buttery; his children, Jason Buttery of Youngstown, Briana Kislack of Niagara Falls, and Daniel Buttery, Jr. of Lewiston; his grandchildren, Justin and Brandon; a sister, Debra Ross of Peoria, AZ; a niece, Tracey Dutson; a step brother, George (Darcy) Perry of Ransomville; and his special cousins, Susan Hillman and Brenda (Canfield) Swidergal. He was predeceased by a brother, Donald A. Buttery, Jr. and his step mother, Ruth (Sutherland) Perry Buttery. He was loved by his late father in law, Edward S. Olszewski. Friends are invited to join with Dan's family in a celebration of his life on Sunday, August 26 after 12 noon, at their home at 651 Pletcher Rd., Lewiston. Any contributions are asked to be given to the Johnson Family Fund in Dan's memory. Arrangements have been entrusted to HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Road, Ransomville.
