Listed in the 1850 Catahoula Parish, Louisiana Census as David Wiggins, age 8, born LA. With parents and siblings. Listed in the 1860 Catahoula Parish, Louisiana Census as David Wiggins, age 13, born LA. With parents and siblings. Listed in the 1870 Montgomery County, Texas Census, Boggy Precinct, page 1, enumerated June 21st, Dwelling 5, Household 5 as David Wiggins, age 25, farmer, born LA. With wife, children, and possibly mother-in-law. There is a David A. Wiggins listed in the 1890 Harris County, Texas Veterans Schedule. Filed for Pension on May 11, 1913 in Texas. Looks like it says he served in F 2 LA Cav. Confederate or Union? According to Houston Tracy, Jr.: David Wiggins had been captured as a Confederate in Tennessee and sent to New Orleans to be exchanged. David was offered prison for the duration of the War or 'Volunteer' for the U.S. Army. He chose to do the latter and must have gotten word to Jasper that if he would also 'Volunteer,' he could collect the $100 bounty for enlisting being offered at that time. With both of their parents having died in 1862 & 1863 and their other siblings being reared by their oldest sister and new husband, the family certainly could have used the money.
