- ↑ Source:Pierce, Frederick Clifton. Whitney: The Descendants of John Whitney, p. 140, says David d. Scottsville, NY, in 1854. The basis for this is not explained, nor has it been discovered. The Whitney Research Group says he died before 1 Jun 1815, but this is believed to be a misinterpretation of the appointment of his son's guardian, due not to David's death, but because the son was a ward of the town of Watertown, and had reached the age where he was allowed to choose a guardian.
