Will of David Bowen
In the name of God Amen, Jan. 25, 1794, I David Bowen of Montgomery township, Franklin Co., Pa. being old and frail, but of sound mind and memory and calling to mind the mortality of my body and that it is appointed for all men to die and the uncertainty of the time when, I do make and ordain this to be my last will and testament. First I commit my soul to God who gave it and my body to the earth to be buried in christian like manner at the discretion of my Executors. As for what worldly estate it hath pleased God to bless me with, I dispose of in manner and form following;
IMPRIMIS: I allow my funeral charges and all my just debts to he paid by my executors out of my personal estate.
I allow my sons, to he divided by a straight line starting at a small black-oak grub standing on or near a certain division fence, so as to stake a heap of stones on top of Clay lick hill, and on the out side line of my land, made for the purpose of dividing said land.
ITEM; I give and bequeath unto my son David Bowen, his heirs and assigns, that part of my land I now live on, as divided above, he paying my grandson David Atherton, if he lives to the age of twenty-one years, twenty pounds.
ITEM; I give and hequeath to my grandson David Bowen, son of my son Samuel Bowen dec'd., the other part, or the part where he now lives to him his heirs and assigns, reserving the one half of all the privileges and benefits of said part to his mother during her natural life; he paying to his sister. Elizabeth Davis the sum of twenty pounds, part of which he has already paid and twenty pounds to his sister Rebecca Bowen. His mother has paid twenty pounds to her daughter Jane Herod and twenty pounds to her daughter Hannah Evans and fourteen pounds to her daughter Mary Denham, to whom she is to pay six pounds more in order to make her share equal to the other sisters. As for my personal estate I allow it to be sold at public vendue as soon a convenient after my decease, but not until all my daughters now living. Mary John, Gwen Denham, Sarah James and Rebecca Ross. may be notified in order that they may attend, if they see proper and the whole of said estate to be equally divided between my aforesaid four daughters.
I ordain and appoint my son, David Bowen and my grandson above named to execute this my last will and testament, disallowing all other wills by me made, confirming this and not the other to be my last will and testament.
