NEW HAMPTON - Darlene Frances Martens, 72, of New Hampton, died Friday, Feb. 17, at the New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born Dec. 1, 1939, near Nashua in rural Chickasaw County, daughter of Amos W. and Helen M. Marovets Springer. On Dec. 31, 1959, she married Harlan C. Martens at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. He died Oct. 19, 1991. Mrs. Martens graduated from Nashua High School in 1958. She worked as a cook for many years at the former Crystal Grill Truck Stop, New Hampton. Survived by: a daughter, Deb (Joe) Zubrod of Lawler; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Dorothy (Henry) Mohring of Ionia, Madonna (Ervin) Mohring and Lorraine (Ralph) Bigelow, both of Charles City, and Beverly (Dave) Bray of West Des Moines. Preceded in death by: a daughter, Deeann Byrne; a brother, Gordon Springer; and a sister, Doris Martin. Private family services: will be held at Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home, New Hampton, with burial in Calvary Cemetery, Charles City. No public visitation will be held.
