Daniel Heywood was a tavern keeper. A room in his house was used as a jail after the incorporation of Worcester in 1731 Daniel was a Major and buried in 2nd burying ground on Commons He was one of the first deacons of the church. Epitaph from The Worcester Book: a diary of noteworthy events in Worcester, MA from 1657 to 1883- Here lies inter'd the body of Major Daiel Heywook, who departed this life April 12th 1773 in ye 79th year of his age. He was an early settler in this wotn and one of the first Deacons of the church in this Place, in which office he continued to the day of his Death. This monument is erected at the desire and Expence of his Grandson and Heir, Daniel Heywood. References
