Gunn, Daniel, Westfield. Private, Westfield co. of Minute-men commanded by Lieut. John Shepard, which marched April 20, 1775, in response to the alarm of April 19, 1775; service, 8 days; reported enlisted into the army April 28, 1775; also, Capt. Warham Parks' co., Col. Timothy Danielson's regt.; muster roll dated Aug. 1, 1775; enlisted April 28, 1775; service, 3 mos. 10 days; also, company return [probably Oct., 1775]; also, order for bounty coat or its equivalent in money dated Westfield, Feb. 1, 1776.

One of 53 Westfield men who marched on 20 April 1775, the day after the fight at Lexington. Probably in company of minute men who where at Battle of Bunker Hill (17 June 1775. May also have been in the Quebec expedition the following winter.

On a document of the Auburn, NY, Surrogate Court dated 17 Mar 1802 Daniel is named administrator of the estate of Samuel Robinson, late of the Town of Aurelius in Cayuga County.[3] Daniel is a resident of Aurelius at that time. [See document number 367]

On a document of the Catskill, NY, Surrogate Court (p 118) dated 8 Apr 1827, Sarah Hunt of the town of Windham, Greene County, leaves her estate to her daughter Hannah Tuttle, including "a demand I have made against Daniel Gunn of $750 due me on award made 3 June 1824" ... On 5 Sep 1827 Daniel Gunn filed against the Probate of Will of Sarah Hunt "on behalf of his children and as the agent of Stephen Simmons." [See document number 264][3]

A Daniel Gunn appears in the 1810 census in Cayuga County, NY-- perhaps living around the town of Preble (where Gunns are reported to have lived). He may have moved to that area with his brothers Noble, Moses, and Hezekiah. In the household there were 2 males under 10 years old, 1 male 10-16 years, 1 over 45 years, 2 females under 10 years, 2 females 10-16 years, 1 female 16-26 years old. (Possibly one male 26-45, record nearly illegible)

  9. The relatively new headstone at Soule Cemetery gives a birthdate of 4 July 1753, again casting some doubt that this Daniel is the one who died in 1834, Cayuga Co., NY. However, there is confusion in the records regarding the date of birth and the date of baptism. See citation 7 which states that 26 July 1754 was Daniel's date of christening. Also, the Gregorian calendar was introduced into the British Colony in North America in 1752 and there was some confusion for a while.
