Evidence that this Daniel Gunn is the same one who married Huldah Phelps is circumstantial, based on age, dates, locations, and associations. There were other Daniel Gunns in the area, so there is some confusion. It is interesting to note that Ebenezer Phelps is a neighbor in Brutus, Cayuga County, New York; that he was born in Springfield, just a few miles from Westfield, where Daniel was born, and that he was a relative of Huldah Phelps, Daniel's first wife. Both men served as soldiers in the Revolution and may well have known each other before going to New York. Daniel and Martha's daughter, Maria, will marry Uriah Phelps, a son of Ebenezer. Uriah and Huldah Phelps were 3rd cousins with a common 2nd great grandfather: George Phelps.

Ebenezer's father and grandfather were residents of Westfield. This was still small world in the early 1800s.
