Cuthbert Whalley was born in Kirkham, Lancashire.
He married Mary Mulcaster in Garrigill, Cumberland.
He worked as a shoemaker in Kirkham. Later he moved to the Bradford area where several of his children were living. He was working as a blanket warehouseman when his son, William, was married in 1867.

Mary died in 1848 a few months after their last child was born. Cuthbert remarried to a widow, Margaret (Adelaide) Rogerson. Margaret was born in Germany, but we suspect that Cuthbert met her in Kirkham. We have not found a marriage record for Cuthbert and Margaret yet.
