Ann (Whalley) Fuller, Cuthbert and Mary Whalley's daughter, Pickering's younger and William's older sister was born about 1844 in Kirkham, Lancashire. She was only 4 when her mother died in 1848 and only 7 when her older sister, Margaret died in 1851 and 8 when her aged grandmother died. Her father remarried between 1851 and 1861. We don't know exactly when, since we have not found a marriage record, but with so many young children, it was probably closer to 1851.

After leaving home, Ann worked as a domestic servant. We find her in Bradford, Yorkshire in the 1861 and 1871 census. She probably moved to Bradford when her father and siblings did.

In 1881 she was still unmarried and living with her older brother Joshua in Stroud, Gloucestershire, working in his tailor shop. She married, possibly later in 1881 and possibly to John Fuller. If this is true, then the marriage took place in Ipswich, Suffolk where her brother had lived for a while. One of his children was born there and four others were born in nearby Woodbridge. On 29 May 1883 Ann had her daughter Annie Selina Fuller. There is evidence that she had three other children who did not survive (in one of the US census records she said she had had 4 children).

I found Ann and Annie still living in Ipswich at 10 Waterloo St. in 1891. She was unemployed and a widow. Besides her daughter, Annie, she had a boarder, Stephen V. Cook, a disabled blacksmith. He died in 1895. I presume that her husband and children died in or around Ipswich in the 1880s. I found a John Fuller of about the right age (52) who died in the forth quarter of 1885. I found several Fuller children who died as infants in Ipswich between 1881 when Ann and John presumbly married, and 1891 when Ann is a widow.

In 1897 Ann's brother William Whalley went to England to get her and her daughter. They arrived at Ellis Island in June. They went to Alameda, where William lived. We find Anna and Annie there in the 1900 census. They were boarding separately, but near to each other, working as a housekeeper and servant. Ann (Whalley) Fuller was described as a widow who had had four children, only one of whom (Annie) was living.

Ann (Whalley) Fuller may have died in 1913. I found an Oakland Tribune "Board of Health Report" listing an Ann Fuller with a "valvular insufficiency". It is not clear whether this is a death notice since "deaths" appear separately on this page. The article was on July 10, 1913. If this is her, I should find her in the 1910 census, but so far I have not done so. In 1910 Ann's daughter, Annie, was working in a commercial laundry in Alameda.

Annie Selina Fuller continued to work in a laundry at least until 1930. She became a US citizen in Alameda in 1937. She never married and died in Alameda 17 Feb 1942 at the age of 58.
