    The parents of grandmother Mayer, our great grandparents, are buried in Voegtly Cemetery (German isn't it?) here in Pgh. The wording on one headstone [for Conrad Reusswig] is unreadable, it is evidently an older marker made of soft stone and is weather worn.

    Konrad was born in Meerholz, Hessen, Nassau, Germany. son of Johann Heinrich and Anna Maria Gref Reusswig.
    A farmer, he lived in house no.57 Meerholz, Germany.
    He immigrated to America in 1864 on board the Ship: Christel, leaving from Bremerhaven and arriving in New York,10 November 1864. Konrad was the nephew of Meerholz Buergermeister, Johann Georg Reusswig. Conrad immigrated with his wife and children:

    In 1864 Conrad was 5 feet 6 inches tall, had brown hair, blond eyebrows and blue eyes, and good teeth and had enough education to sign his own name in a confident handwriting. He died before 1880 and is buried in Voegtly Cemetery, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

  7. According to Conrad's great-granddaughter, Ann Mayer Knott, shortly after the family arrived in the United States, they were swindled out of the money they had brought with them.
