In March 1905 he bought the Brandon Times from E. L. Christie and became its editor. On 11 July 1904, he married Ina Arnett, a daughter of Lewis Arnett, at Brandon. They had four children: Lilian King, Katherine King, Kenneth King, and Edith King. The family resided at 327 Sixteenth Street. He was elected to the Brandon School Board (1911) and the Brandon Commercial Bureau (1912), and served as Vice-President of the Brandon Horticultural Society. He was a member of the IOOF.
