Clarence was generally called "Stew" which was a nickname derived from his being a steward somewhere - but I forget if this was his occupation or at an organization to which he belonged. 1920 census-District of Columbia-209 District-Precinct 8-Adams Street-I cannot read the head of house name but the house is rented, the man is 35 from Ireland and came to the US in 1905, became a citizen in 1912, his parents are also from Ireland. His wife is Mary and she is 36, came to the US in 1897 and became a citizen in 1912, her parents are also from Ireland. Their children are Mary age 5 and John age 11 months. Clarence Wells Butler is a lodger, age 26, born in Missouri as are his parents and he is a clerk in the Navy Dept. His wife, Rose L is 24, born in DC as are her parents and she is a clerk in the State Dept.
