Mrs. Helen C. Wall is Dead

Mrs. Helen C. Wall, 3427 East 16th Ave., Denver, Colo., prominent in Red Cross and social activities and widow of the late Herbert L. Wall, died Nov. 14 at St. Luke's hospital, following a major operation performed Monday morning.

Mrs. Wall apparently had a presentiment that she would not survive the operation for she visited an attorney the week before and had her will drawn up. It provides for her only son, Herbert, aged 13, to whom the whole of her estate is left. Mrs. Wall was formerly Miss Helen Dunkle. She went to Colorado from Ohio nineteen years ago, and married Herbert L. Wall, who was the son of David K. Wall, pioneer Denver man and owner of several large properties on Cheery Creek. Her husband died four years after the wedding, leaving his wife large business interests.

She is survived by her son, by Hiram C. Dunkle, of Logan, a brother; Mrs. Bertha L. Dresbach of Kingston, a sister; Mrs. Amanda Miars, Breckenridge, Colo., a half sister; Mrs. Nan Steele, Santa Monica, Calif., a half sister; Henry Dunkle, Ames, Iowa, half brother; Mrs. Mary F. Chidester, Denver, Colo., half sister.

Mrs. Cliff Dresbach attended the funeral, which was held at the Olinger mortuary in charge of OE. S. on Thursday, Nov. 20.

Helen Clara Dunkle (most times in her early life in Ohio she was referred to as Clara H.) was the daughter of Marcus Lafayette DUNKLE and Sarah Elizabeth SWAIM. Her father died on 20 July 1890 and her mother died 10 Jan 1897 in Vinton County, Ohio. In 1892 she married William B. Lyons, but by 1900 she was either widowed or divorced. In the 1900 census she is listed as Clara Dunkle, age 29, a roomer on East Town Street in Columbus, Ohio. Her occupation is Stenographer. In the same home are her younger sister, Bertha L., age 24, a School Teacher, and a first cousin (dau. of Columbus B. and Lizzie Davis DUNKLE), Estella M. Dunkle, a student, aged 18.

Helen Clara and Herbert L. Wall had a son on 17 Mar 1906 and named him Herbert D. Wall. Is his middle name Dunkle? He is also buried in Fairmount Cemetery.

After the death of his father, Herbert L. Wall, in 1907, Herbert D. Wall and his mother, Helen C. Wall, are found in the 1910 Census of Denver Co., CO, with Mary F. Chidester. Mary F. Dunkle Chidester is noted as Helen Clara's sister. Mary F. Dunkle married Samuel A. Chidester on 26 Apr 1883 in Vinton Co., Ohio. In an old photo of Herbert Wall, he is identified as well as a woman named "Frank." In the 1924 obituary of Bertha Dunkle Dresbach, the following are listed as survivors: one brother, H.C. Dunkel, of Columbus; two half sisters, Mrs. Frank Chidester of Denver, Colorado, and Mrs. Amanda Meyers of Breckenridge, Colorado, and one half-brother, Henry Dunkle, of Des Moines, Iowa.

After the death of Helen Clara in 1919, Herbert L. is found in the 1920 Census of Santa Monica, Los Angeles, California, in the home of his aunt, Nancy Minerva DUNKLE Swaim Steele. Nancy was a half sister of Helen Clara, a daughter of Marcus L. Dunkle and his first wife, Eliza Jane OGAN.
