Charlotte Edwards was baptised on 25th March 1804 at Pagham on the Sussex coast, daughter of Susannah Edwards, formerly Bollard, and her husband James Edwards. Charlotte was the ninth of their ten children, although her younger brother died as a baby and one of her older siblings had died young before Charlotte was born, making her effectively the youngest of eight children who survived to adulthood.

Charlotte was married on 10th October 1824, aged 20, to an agricultural labourer named Charles Green. Charlotte's sister Mary and her husband Joseph Bailey witnessed the marriage. They married in Pagham, where they would go on to have eleven children baptised between 1825 and 1848. Most of their children's baptisms record that the family lived in the hamlet of Lagness. It seems likely that Charlotte was also from the Lagness area of Pagham, as her older brother Henry gave his place of birth as Lagness. Of Charlotte and Charles's eleven children, three died young.

Charlotte's mother died in 1832. The following year Charlotte's sister Mary Bailey died. It has yet to be established when Charlotte's father died.

The 1841 census finds Charlotte, Charles, their children and one of Charlotte's nephews, Henry Bailey (son of her late sister Mary), living at Lagness. Charlotte appears at Lagness in each census from 1841 to 1871 except 1861, when she seems to have been away from home, although she has not been found anywhere else. Charles died in 1879, aged about 82. Charlotte survived him by nearly eight years. She appears in the 1881 census living with her youngest son Thomas and his family at Lagness.

Charlotte was buried at Pagham on 20th January 1887, aged 82. Immediately before her death she was described as living at Singleton, a few miles away from Pagham.

Baptisms in 1804 / March 25th Charlotte daughter of James & Susannah Edwards

This baptism has been linked to the Charlotte Edwards who married Charles Green on the basis that in the censuses she consistently claimed to have been born around 1804 in Pagham, and the witnesses to their marriage were Joseph and Mary Bailey (formerly Edwards), with Mary being older sister to the Charlotte baptised in 1804.
