- ↑ "CHARLES RITTER, born about 29 Aug 1869 - 04 Apr 1899-- DIED at the homeof his father in Angola, Indiana, April 4, 1899, Charles Ritter, aged 38years, 7 months and 6 days.
Charles Ritter was born in Salem township, Steuben county, Indiana, and was the eldest son of Simon and Helen Ritter. He was an exemplaryyoung man and highly esteemed by all. He was a member of the M. E.church and the Knights of Pythias lodge, the funeral services being heldunder the auspices of the latter. The spirit of christian resignationand fortitude with which he bore his long and painful sickness was aninspiration to all. It is a great thing to see a man triumph over deaththrough the power of a living faith. Funeral services were held at theM. E. Church Friday, April 7th, Rev. E.S. Smith, officiating. Burial atMt. Zion. IN MEMORIAM Through the wise and loving providence of our Father above, it isgood that we, His children, be called home one by one, to enter into theeternal rest prepared for us in the Temple above. For as the silvercord be loosed, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, then shall thedust return to the God who gave it. We bend our heads meekly to thecrosses laid upon us by a loving hand, and when our names are called, wrap the drapery of the couch about us and trusting in the merits ofJesus, lie down to pleasant dreams. But no less do we mourn those whogo before us leaving our ranks. Resolved-That we as Rathbone Sisters of Angola, deeply deplore theloss of our dead. It is with pain and sorrow that we have to record thedeath of our brother, Charles Ritter. The Angel of Death havingdarkened his home, taking our dear one, let us weep not as those havingno hope, but rather, look forward to the grand reunion in that grandTemple above not made with hands and "where parting is known no moreforever." Resolved-That we extend to the bereaved family our fraternalsympathy; that a copy of these resolutions be given to the family of thedeceased, and that a copy be furnished to each of the Angola papers. Ophelia Williamson, \\ Julia Jacob, Com. Elizabeth Davis, /
WHEREAS-God in His infinite wisdom and mercy has removed from ourmidst our brother, Charles Ritter, and WHEREAS-By his quiet andunassuming demeanor, his honest dealings with his fellow men, and by hisupright character, he endeared himself to all who knew him, and duringhis long illness he bore his intense sufferings with christian-likefortitude, always relying on Him "who doeth all things well, and everbelieving that life is eternal, he passed to that bourne from whence notraveler returns. His memory will be cherished in Friendship, Charityand Benevolence by the members of Angola lodge, No. 206, Knights ofPythias. Therefore be it Resolved-That his chair in the lodge room bedraped for thirty days, that a copy of these resolutions be spread uponthe records of this lodge, and a copy be delivered to the members of hisfamily, and also published in the Angola papers. Louis Stiefel, \\ Frank M. Powers, Com. D. R. Best /"
