Rod was a car enthusiast and could often be found working on his pristine, torch red 1962 Chevy Corvette. He and Susie were proud members of the Fly Wheels Car Club. They enjoyed traveling across the state with their ‘vette to support various charities, picking up many trophies and awards along the way. Rod appreciated the outdoors and spent much time golfing, sprint car racing, camping, hiking, fishing, hunting, and shooting sporting clays. He also enjoyed many indoor pursuits, such as, billiards, reading, photography, and dancing with Susie. He especially loved family poker nights and water volleyball with his friends at the YMCA. As a devoted father, Rod was heavily invested in his children’s sports and activities. He was a coach for Marion Midget Football and Waldo Little League Baseball. He was a judge for the Marion County Science Fair and was a reporter/photographer for Drum Corps World magazine, covering the Winter Guard circuit. Rod was an avid Ohio State sports fan, especially Buckeye football. He always wore his lucky OSU shirt and had specific rituals he would perform to help ensure a victory. He and Susie loved to travel. They particularly liked the beach resorts of Mexico. In the U.S., they treasured their family vacations to Callaway Gardens. It was there that Rod developed his love of the circus and learned to walk the high-wire and swing flying trapeze.
