Charles attended Univ. of VA in Charlotteville in Sociology. He was an infantryman at the Anzio beachhead in WWII, and marched with Patton through Italy into Europe and Germany. After the war he took a Masters degree in social work, married, and moved back to Boston, MA to become special assistant to State Welfare Commissioner Steven Minter amd then executive director of United South End Settlements and of Action for Boston Community Development. He died playing tennis in Sun City, FL.

First child Klaus Dorrich, lived in Australia, retired to Thailand.
