Charles Keyte was baptised on 18th June 1826 at Broadway in Worcestershire, son of a dressmaker named Sarah Keyte, formerly Miles, and her husband William Keyte, a glazier. Charles appears in the 1841 census living with his parents and siblings on the High Street in Broadway.
In 1853, Charles was married at Cheltenham to Ann James, who was from Hay in Breconshire. By the time of the 1861 census they had two children and were running the Bell Inn at Pershore in Worcestershire. By 1871 Charles was working as a butler in Cheltenham, living with his employers whilst Ann and the children lived nearby. Charles's next sighting in 1891 sees a similar situation - Ann was living elsewhere in Cheltenham, whilst he lived at 15 Lansdown Place in Cheltenham with his employer, Samuel Henry Barton, a justice for the peace and deputy lieutenant for County Tipperary in Ireland.
Ann died a couple of months after the 1891 census. The 1901 census finds Charles living apparently alone at 19 Hatherley Street in Cheltenham; there was another family at the house, but the census denotes Charles as being a separate household from them.
Charles died on 30th April 1906 in Cheltenham. He was 79 years old.
