Facts and Events
As a teenager, he appears in the minutes of the Cedar Creek monthly meeting as engaging in gaming and other "disorderly practices." He was willed his father's residence in 1782, and was listed as tithable in his mother's household in 1785. He is listed in his own household by 1788, and was taxed in Louisa County until shortly after his marriage in 1793. Charles shows up in Grainger County, TN in 1797 when he put his cattle mark in record and purchased land shortly thereafter. He appears in the records of Grainger County through 1804 when he sold land to Valentine Morgan. When his son Charles was bound out as an apprentice in August 1813, the records indicate that he was a ward of the court.[1] References
