Charles Wilson S. Brown (b. 1821) died 2nd qtr 1883 at Lichfield, Staffs (bmd). Charles W. Swinfen-Broun, aged 62, died 30mar1883 at Swinfen Hall, Lichfield (Times). Charles Wilsone Broun probably married Patience Swinfen 4th qtr 1861 at Lichfield (bmd), but on same page Charles Wilsone Brown was mentioned. Staffs and Stoke on Trent archives have the will of Charles Wilsone Swinfen-Broun, ref. D3247/20 (1883-86). Patience was married to Henry John Swinfen, son of Samuel. Frederick Hay Swinfen contested her inheritance. From “County families of the UK” 1864: Patience Swinfen-Broun of Swinfen Hall, Staffs. Patience, daughter of late John Williams of Llanfair, Montgomerys., by Patience, daughter of John Thomas of Rhosfawr, Montgomerys., married (1) 1831 Henry John Swinfen (d. jun1884), son of Samuel Swinfen (d. jul1854), and (2) 1861 Charles Wilsone Broun of Linburn, Dumb. Henry John Swinfen was b. 1802 at Berkshire, son of Samuel Swinfen and Susanna (IGI).

William Brown and Co., Glasgow oil Co., were bankrupt in 1858; Charles Wilsone Brown, son, referred to his father in law, Mr. Rowan and Walter Buchanan (Glasgow Herald 8jan1858). In law case Western Bank vs Buchanan, marriage contract of Charles Wilsone Brown and Ellen Buchanan (14oct1846), Walter Buchanan of Shandon, James Brown of William Brown and Co., Stockwell St., Glasgow, and Andrew Buchanan, MD, Glasgow, are mentioned (Glasgow Herald 14nov1861, 10may1865). In 1820 William Brown, oil and colour merchant, was at 101 Trongate; William Brown and Co., oil and colour merchants, 24 Stockwell St., had house at 9 Moore Pl. in 1831 and at Kilmardinny in 1841 (PO Directory). William Brown, who was Dean of Guild in 1837 and 1856, owned Kilmardinny from 1833 to 1844 (Glasgowstory).
