According to various sources, Caroline was the daughter of Delila Peacock and Michael Sides.

 In the 1850 census for Brown Co., Illinois, Caroline Briggs is 32 from North Carolina; with Mary T., 11, born Illinois; Henrietta 8, Illinois; and James M, 5, born Missouri. {p.263, <http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilbrown/1850_Census/>} 
 According to various sources, Caroline married Joseph Rulon [or Rulan or Rulen] in 1851.  The Illinois archives show a marriage for Caroline Briggs and 'C. C. Culon' in 1851 in Brown Co.
 In the 1860 census for Brown Co., Illinois, Car N. 'Rulan' is 42 NC (f), with S[arah] E. 8 (m); [children by James Briggs] M[ary] F. 21 (f) IL; H[enrietta] M. 18 IL (f); and J[ames] M. 15 MO (m).  Also in the household are Rob't Glenn 21 'cooper'; David Orr 25 'cooper' and [nephew?] W. M. Sides 4 mos (m). They are next door to Elizabeth Briggs 55, living in the household of Joseph and E. Bush.
 In the 1870 census for Lee, Brown Co., Illinois, Caroline 'Rulen' is 53 NC, with Sarah 19 IL; living in the household of Ebenezer and Lucy Stephens.
 Sarah Rulan married Franklin Orr in 1873.
 In the 1880 census for Lee, Brown Co., Illinois, Caroline 'Rulan' is 62 NC with grandson Leon Orr 6 IL (OH, IL).
