Interment with Military Honors will follow the service at the Lutheran Cemetery. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.

Carl was born on April 27, 1913, on the family farm ten miles north of Beach, to Martin and Isabel (Evers) Ueckert. He attended grade school at the Little Beaver School, a mile and half from his home, and graduated from Beach High School. Highlight's of Carl's high school years included being a part of a winning dairy and crop judging team that had the privilege of traveling to St. Louis, Missouri. His senior year of high school he was on the debate team that won first place at the district contest. Carl enjoyed drama and later participated in community plays.

After high school, in the 1930's, Carl enjoyed "knocking around out west" where he and a friend rode freight cars as they criss-crossed the country looking for work, spending a lot of time in Washington state picking hops and potatoes.

Carl returned to North Dakota and farmed with his dad using a four horse team until they bought their first tractor in 1936.

Carl met Lillie Wojahn and was married on December 18, 1941, at the family farm in Wibaux County. They rented farmland until he was inducted into the United States Army on September 28, 1942 at Fort Snelling, Minnesota.

Carl was sent to Panama where he remained for three years without a single furlough. He was honorably discharged on November 26, 1945 at Camp McCoy Wisconsin.

In 1946 Carl bought the family farm and farmed there until 1993 when he and Lilly moved to the Golden Valley Manor due to poor health for both of them.

Carl served as treasurer, secretary, or both, for several groups including

the Saddle Butte School District, St. Paul's Lutheran Church, County ASCS, Farmer's Union Oil Co. Board, and Golden West Electric Company. He was also active in the Golden Valley Historical Society, American Legion, VFW, and the X-GI Drill team. Carl was instrumental in preserving the Little Beaver School, which now sits next to the Golden Valley Museum. He was also on the original museum committee that bought, rebuilt, and turned the old Schultz garage into the county museum.

Carl was an excellent marksman and loved to hunt deer, antelope, and pheasant. He was especially proud that he often hit his mark on the shot.

Carl was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie; his parents, Martin and Isabel; a sister, Irene, and his brother James.

Carl is survived by two sons, Warren Ueckert and his wife Catherine of Flagstaff, Arizona and Ronald Ueckert of South Fork, Colorado; two daughters, Rita Gilfillan and her husband Norman of Hot Springs, South Dakota and Gayle Sprenger and her husband Steve of Fargo, North Dakota; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Gloria Ueckert of Beach, North Dakota; and two sisters-in-law, Ida Braden and her husband Floyd of Beach, North Dakota and Marie Secora of Bozeman, Montana
