  7. Martin James (Jim) Ueckert, age 68, of Beach, North Dakota passed away at his home on February 7, 2004, after a short battle with cancer.

    Memorial services will be held at St. PaulÂ's Lutheran Church on Wednesday, February 11, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Robert Rowan officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at the Lutheran Cemetery in Beach.

    Jim was born in Beach on June 3, 1935, the son of Martin and Isabel (Evers) Ueckert. He was raised and educated in the Beach area to include Little Beaver School, north of Beach, also Lincoln Elementary and Beach High School graduating in 1954. He served his country in the U.S. Army from November 1954 to September 1956. After his military service, he attended NDAC and UND until 1960 upon which time he decided to follow his love for farming.

    Jim married Gloria Schmeling on April 15, 1961 and they raised five children together. He continued doing farm work near Beach and Glendive, Montana and worked a few years for the City of Beach and the U.S. Post Office. In 1972, he started his own business working with local farmers and ranchers which he did up until his death.

    Jim was a dedicated Christian man and was very active in his church, St. Paul Lutheran. He served on the church council, was active as the church treasurer, ushered and enjoyed singing in the choir.

    Jim loved life and the outdoors. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards, especially pinochle, playing cribbage and slap with his children and grandchildren.

    Jim is survived by his wife of 42 years, Gloria; three sons, Randy of Ellensburg, WA, Fredric of Seattle, WA and Bradley currently serving in the U.S. Army; two daughters, Amy Heath of Colorado Springs, CO and Vanessa Ueckert of Billings, Montana; six grandchildren, TJ and Kelsey Ueckert of Seattle, WA, Ben, Brady and Baylee Heath of Colorado Springs, CO and Ariah Ueckert of Billings, Montana; one brother, Carl Ueckert of Beach and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and an infant son.
