Served as a Private in Co. G; 18th Regimental Infantry, Missouri. Enrolled November 28, 1861 at Milan, MO for 3 years. Wounded and died after the Battle of Shiloh at Pittsburg Landing, TN on April 6, 1862.

Goodspeed's History of Crawford Co. Arkansas states that Bryant and two of his brothers died in Federal Prison at Alton, IL. Bryant certainly didn't! The records [1] of his service in the Civil War is clear. His widow apparently received a pension until her re-marriage to Horace Smith Jewell in 1865. His 3 sons are named in one of the documents.
