Elkhart - Betty Jean Johnson, 65, of 57866 S. 10th St., died at 1 a.m. Sunday (May 3, 1992) at St. Joseph's Medical Center in South Bend. She had been in ill health.

She was born Oct. 30, 1926, in Elkhart as Betty Jean Hertsel, she married Buford "Boots" R. Johnson on Jan. 3, 1971, in Elkhart. Surviving are her sister Mrs. Ed (Jeanene) Franks of Elkhart, and two brothers, Everett "Pete" R. Hertsel of Edwardsburg, MI. Two brothers, Charles and Glenn Hertsel, and a sister, Margaret Wallin, are deceased.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home where the funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Clarence Dycus of Ontwas Baptist Church in Edwardsburg will officiate. Burial will be in Rice Cemetery. Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Ontwa Baptist Church in Edwardsburg, MI.

Memorials may be given to the National Kidney Foundation.
