Benjamin(e) MCNAIR was born 5 oct 1794 in Barony parish (IGI). He was known as Dr. Benjamin MCNAIR; according to the military records of his elder brother James and his mother’s will (drawn up 11oct1826). He studied at Glasgow University (military records of brother). He married Mary Rennie MILLER (of Gartcraig - family letters). He died in 1844 (family letters). Scottish archives have the will of Benjamin McNair, doctor of medicine sometime residing at Dunipace House, Dunipace, Co. Stirling, spouse of Mary Rennie Miller or McNair, reg. 14mar1844, Stirling. A student matriculating at University of Glasgow in 1808 was Benjamin McNair (numbered 7482) filius natu tertius Jacobi armigeri de Greenfield, Glasgow (McNair book 1955 supplement). He received at the University of Edinburgh the degree of M. D. in 1815 and MFPSG in 1819 (mc1955, 1960 supplement). He practiced as a physician in Glasgow and died at Dunipace, Stirlingshire, 25jan1844, aged 49; he was granduncle of number 14861 (McNair book 1955 supplement). Glasgow PO Directory 1820 lists Dr. B. M'Nair, 8 George's Sq., NW corner.
