This individual was possibly born 17 Jun 1762 and died 27 Aug 18 07 aged 45 years, 2 months and 10 days. Buried in the Flandrea u Graveyard, New Rochelle, Westchester, New York. FHL 860286

--- Peter Gunn: At the time of transcription of the headstone by Morgan Seacor d in the 1890's it read "In memory of ....AMIN FLANDREAU who departed this life Aug 27th, 1807. Aged 45 years, 2 months, & 10 days. Also of his son BENJAMIN, who departed this life August 20th, 1805. Aged 1 year, 10 months & 7 days" The footstone read simply "B.F."

Second epitaph no longer readable by 1940-41 at the time of Mama roneck High Schools's Swope Award Contest, when Leo Edward Gatto ni recorded the cemetery inscriptions of several small cemeterie s. His notes on them do not include any information about the F landreau cemetery, but he records ten stones in the graveyard.

Whether this Benjamin Flandreau is rightly connected to these pa rents is not certain. It is certain that father Benjamin RIN 50 68 had a son Benjamin as was mentioned in his will. Benjamin ju nior also appears in John's and Peter's wills. If this particul ar Benjamin is not this son, he's at least likely a cousin of so me sort, since the cemetery in which he is buried was establishe d on the farm of the elder Benjamin listed here.

In the 1790 census for New York, page 201, there is an entry fo r a Benjamin Flandreau of New Rochelle. In his household, ther e were four white males of 16 or older, 2 white males under 16 , 5 white females, and 2 slaves. This is most likely the recor d for the Benjamin Flandreau born in 1718, given the number of a dults in the household, but I'm placing this info with each Benj amin Flandreau listed in this file who could fit this census rec ord.

A note in "Wills of New Rochelle" mentions with regards to Eliza beth's will that Elizabeth was the widow of Benjamin Flandreau j unior, which shows that they at least believed that particular B enjamin to be the son of Benjamin Flandreau. They also mentio n the Flandreau cemetery "near Dillon Park, New Rochelle. Recen tly it has been practically destroyed." They certainly seemed t o believe that Benjamin was the son of the Benjamin who founde d the cemetery.
