"Eliza"

The 1810 and 1820 census records for Elizabeth Flandrow sugges t that her husband died between 1805 and 1810, which further sug gests that they are entries for Benjamin's wife Elizabeth.

The 1810 census of New Rochelle, Westchester County, New York, p age 219a [1084] lists Eliza Flanderow as head of a household con sisting of one white female 21-45, one white male 11-15, and tw o white females ten or younger.

The 1820 census of New Rochelle, Westchester County, New York, p age 157 [212] lists Elizabeth Flandrow as head of a household co nsisting of one white female over 44, one white female 21-44, on e white female 16-20, one white female 10-15, and one white mal e 10-15.

The males don't seem to be the same one individual, but the wome n all match up, though I wonder who the 21-44 woman in the 182 0 census is.

Wife of Benjamin Flandreau. Age 51 when died. Buried in Flandreau Cemetery, New Rochelle. FHL 860286

At the time of transcription of her headstone (1939?) it read "I n memory of Elizabeth, wife of BENJAMIN FLANDREAU, who died Sept ember 15, 1822. Aged 51."

In 1923, Florence S. Bennett of New Rochelle recorded the follow ing information from a stone: BENJMAIN FLANDREAU, died 1832, Age 51. FHL 860286 had a record for this Benjamin Flandreau, probably ba sed on the transcription.

However, Chris Mosher theorizes that Bennett was actually readin g a fragment of the stone of Elizabeth; she was 51 when she die d in 1822. This theory makes a lot of sense, especially when th ere's a lack of documentation for this other Benjamin Flandreau . Therefore I removed the separate record for Benjamin and lef t this note in Elizabeth's file.

Elizabeth left a will dated 13 September 1822 and proved 30 Sept ember 1822: I Elizabeth flandreau of the town of New Rochelle Westchester Co unty State of New York, being in sound mind though infirm in bod y, do make this as my last Will and testament. Imprimus I giv e and bequeath all and singular my estate, both real and persona l unto my daughters Susan and Ann Eliza share and share alike . I hereby constitute and appoint Samuel Titus and Benjamin Bad eu my true and lawful Executors to carry this my last Will and T estament into effect and desire them to effect sale of all the p roperty both real and personal at such time and in such manner a s they think best, giving to my daughter Susan her equal one hal f as soon as it may be divided or placing it for her in such man ner as she may direct and with regard to the one half left to m y daughter Ann Eliza it is my desire for my said Executors to pl ace the same in the safest and most productive manner they are a ble, using the interest thereof for her education and support du ring her minority and giving the said one half product of my est ate aforesaid to my said daughter Ann Eliza on her attaining th e age of twenty-one years.

In witness whereof I have subscribed my name and affixed my sea l this thirteenth day of September in the year 1822.
