Notes for Benejah CadyHe was baptized in Killingly, Conn. April 15,1716. He lived in Plainfield, Conn. and in Smithfield, R.I. he was married twice, first to Mary Nichols. Son of: Benijah CadyDuring the first year of the Revolutionary War the boy took his musket and went to Boston, where he enlisted as a soldier and served as a member of George Washington's guard until the close of the war. He spent the winter at Valley Forge with Washington. He related that one night he accompanied General Washington on a reconnoitering expedition, returning at the break of day with information which enabled the army to make preparation to meet the enemy. At the end of the war he was married in a church in Providence, Rhode Island, to Olive Baker. Six children were born to them, Seth B., Rhoda, Mary, Sarah, Philinda and Elias. They moved to Utica, New York, where she died in 1838. He came with his son, Seth B., to Holly, Michigan. He died at the home of this same son at Genesee County and was buried in Oak Hill cemetery, two miles northwest of Holly. He was a pensioner.
