CALDWELL - Barbara L. Smith, 56, of 16 Cumberland St. died Saturday (May 11, 2002) at her home. She had been suffering from Lou Gehrig's Disease.

She was born Nov. 11, 1945, in Center Township to Ewell and Clara Elsie Brothers Smith. She was a 1966 graduate of Caldwell High School and was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Caldwell. She loved to read books and was always generous in giving of her time to friends and neighbors. She is survived by two sisters, Clara Edith Smith and Ruth E. Boyd, both of Caldwell; one niece, Susan Ewing and her husband, Jody, of East Hampton, N.Y.; one nephew, Jeff Boyd of Caldwell; two great-nieces, Jaclyn and Elissa Ewing; and a special friend, Ethan Weber.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Services are at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Murphy-McCurdy Funeral Home in Caldwell with the Rev. Ed Meyer and John Powell officiating. Burial is in Olive Cemetery in Caldwell. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Caldwell Public Library.
