Preble Farmer Died June 30

Ben Iverson, for Sixty Years a Resident of Fillmore County, Called to Rest

Ben Iverson, a farmer of Preble township, passed away Saturday morning, June 30, at a hospital in La Crosse, Wis. Mr. Iverson, who had reached the age of 66 years, had spent practically al of his life in Fillmore county, with the exception of six years which were spent in the Red River Valley.

Ben Christian Iverson, son of Christian and Bertha Iverson, was born in Preble township on May 7, 1868. His early youth was spent on various farms in the county. When about twelve years of age, his parents moved to the Red River Valley, where they lived for six years, returning at the end of that time to again make their home in Fillmore county.

On January 16, 1899, he was united in marriage with Miss Dorothea Paulson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Christian Paulson of South Fork Ridge. Mr. and Mrs. Iverson rented various farms in this county for about five years, when they purchased the farm in Preble township, which has continued to be their home until his death.

Besides his wife, five children remain to mourn his passing. They are: Rosella (Mrs. Themen Johnson) of Lewiston; Melvin, at home; Blanch (Mrs. Christ Paulson), of Rushford; Olga (Mrs. Charles Sherburne) of Spring Grove; and Ella, at home. One daughter, Clara Annetta, died in infancy.

Five brothers, Edgar, Christ and Andrew of Mabel, Sievert of Austin, and Raniel (sic) of Spring Grove, and two grandchildren, Clarice Paulson and Milford Johnson, also survive. He preceded his sister, Mrs. Ellen Larson, in death by exactly one week.

Mr. Iverson had always enjoyed good health up to Sunday, June 17. At this time he was taken ill, and gradually a progressive cerebral hemorrhage came on. He was taken to the Lutheran hospital at La Crosse on Friday, June 29, and passed away Saturday morning, June 30th, at the age of 66 years, 1 month and 23 days. We are glad to report that he was conscious almost to the very last.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 3, at the Hauges Lutheran church of South Fork, the Rev. Einer Wulfsberg officiating. A large number of friends and relaties (sic), paying the last full measure of devotion to one who had been respected and loved, were in attendance at the burial services.

Mr. Ben Iverson has passed on, but his memory shall always linger with us, and may his memory be a blessing to those who knew and loved him. -Tri-County Record, 7/12/1934
