Axil was born in Wheaton and grew up on the farm. He met Anna Odenborg and married in 1901 at age 23. His two oldest daughters were born in Red Wing in 1902 and 1904. He moved to Latah County Idaho in about 1905 until about 1912. He then moved to Cottage Grove OR and owned and operated a general merchandise store at 619 Main St. and lived at 1232 Main street. He lived here until his death at age 64 in 1943.
