August Wolfe - 1890 Tax List: Chebanse Final Certificate of Naturalization - Printed at The Times Office, Kankakee, Illinois - 3 OCt 1883 Obituary: Mr. August Wolfe, age 77, died at the home of his son, Arthur, northwest of CLifton, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, 1923, after an illness of a short duration. Mr. Wolfe was born in Posen, Germany, on November 17, 1845 and came to this country in 1872, settling in Mattoon. Later he moved to Chicago and married Miss Dorathea Willich in Dec. 1874. Then they came to Pilot township where they occupied the Peters homestead. In 1886 he removed to the Burrill farm, southwest of Chebanse, where he resided for about a quarter of a century. About ten years ago, he retired making his home with his son, Arthur & family. His health began failing early this winter when he was afflicted with heart trouble. His condition became grave about three weeks ago. During his illness he was tenderly cared for by his children. He died at the age of 77 years, 3 months, and 24 days. He is survied by their six children, namely: Margaret, Mrs. Louis Strahl of Clifton; William; Emil; Martha, Mrs. Henry Rahn; Emma, Mrs. John Timm, Jr.; and Arthur, all of Chebanse, Illinois, also twenty-one grandchildren. Mrs. Wolfe died August 6, 1919. He was a member of the Lutheran church of Chebanse and a devout worker in this church. The services were conducted at the home of Arthur Wolfe, Friday March 16, 1923 at 12:00 o'clock noon, by Rev. F.W. Seehausen of Chebanse. Interment was made in Evergreen Cemetery, Chebanse, Illinois. Six grandsons of the deceased were pall-bearers: William, Leo, Leslie and Arthur Strahl of Clifton, Leo Wolfe and Harry Timm, of Chebanse. References
