Facts and Events
Deeds I found online from Berkshire County, MA, (on familysearch.org) are at least part of a paper trail. I've attached the deeds and below is an abstract of each: 1) Vol. 53, pg. 384: The Asahel deed is by administrators, Charles Patterson and Isaac Lamson (Samson?), appointed by the Circuit Court at Lenox on the 4th Monday of February 1817, selling his land for $330, paid by Daniel Champion (Champfries?), struck off to him at public auction held at the Dwelling House of said deceased on the 28th of April hence, 44 acres located in Great Barrington, along a highway leading to Great Barrington. Neighbors mentioned: Joel Fullar (Tullar?), Joshua Willard, Joshua Moots (Roots?), Garrett Burgets, David Noble, Rhoda Roberts; reserving to Grace Booth the privilege of a pathway as reserved by the distribution of Asahel Booth's estate. Deed written 29 April 1817; Recorded from original...date of recording not noted. 2) Vol. 48, pg. 506: David and Betty Booth (our David and Elizabeth Booth), of Mount Washington, Berkshire Co., to William Wright for $166, bordering Wilhelmina Schmit's(?), bounded by the highway, a heap of stones in the mill pond near the bridge; containing 2 acres and 114 square rods; always reserving a four rod highway from the bridge Northeasterly. Dated 30th December 1811. Signed by David Booth (Seal) and Betty Booth (Seal) - (not by their "mark"). Witnessed by Asahel Booth and Charles Patterson. Recorded February 19, 1812. 3) Vol. 52, pg. 124: Joseph Booth and his wife, Abby Booth, of Mt. Washington, sell to William Bunts for $700, land situated in Mt. Washington...beginning at a brook running out of Bear Swamp, then on a direct course toward a well now in possession of Asahel Booth, the said land is bounded west by Comfort Sparks formerly belonging to William Reed Junr. Southerly on land now owned by Charles Patterson and common land, it being our equal half of a lot of land formerly belonging to Nathan Benjamin deceased - containing 50 acres; likewise a piece of land lying in Mt. Washington beginning on the Northwest corner of land belonging formerly to Andrew Patterson deceased, now owned by Charles Patterson at a stake & stones; thence south 2 degrees East nine chains & thirty five links to a heap of stones, then South 88 degrees West eight chains & twenty five links to a heap of stones, then North 2 degrees West nine chains & thirty five links, thence to the place of beginning, containing seven (7) acres, 114 rods of land. Also one other piece of land lying East of the 50 acre plot containing one 1 3/4 acre. Signed 12 Jan 1814. Joseph Booth (seal) and Abby Booth (seal) - (not by mark). Witnessed by Job Potter and Richard Hopkins. 4) Vol. 52, pg. 760: The David Booth deed (our David) to Samuel Dibble and Jeremiah Meas is witnessed by Joseph Booth and Charles Patterson. David and Betty Booth, husband and wife, of Mt. Washington, Berkshire Co., MA, sell for $850 "A certain lot of Land situated in said Mount Washington, first bound is on the West line of the Highway, in the South line of William Wright's Land, several rods South of said Wright's Dwelling house; thence in said Wright's South line to his Southwest corner then on the same course, twenty rods, thence Southwesternly forty rods, thence East twenty rods, thence near South to the Brook, thence turns with the Brook to the place where the old grist mill stood, thence taking the whole privilege of the stream to the top of the Bank, thence continuing on the top of the Bank to the highway, thence Northwesterly to a heap of stones, thence Eastwardly to the East side of the old Highway, thence on said East line of said Highway to the new traveled road, nearly opposite the Dwelling house on said premises, thence crossing over to the West six of said rods, thence Northwardly in the West line of said road to the first bounds - containing one hundred (100) acres of land, be the same, more or less - Always the Highway reserving. Dated 8 Dec 1814. Signed by David Booth (seal) and Betty Booth (seal) - (not by their marks). Recorded 8 Jun 1815. Note for the next deed: Salem (was a town and is still a township), in Meigs Co., OH - and borders the eastern boundary of what is now Wilkesville Twp., Vinton Co. - where David Booth settled. 5) Vol. 57, pg. 645: The clincher!!! Levi Booth of Salem, Meigs Co., OH sells to Chester Goodale Jr., of Egremont, Berkshire Co., MA, on 30 Mar 1822, for $150, Six undivided tenth parts of the following described land, lying partly in Great Barrington and partly in Egremont aforesaid; bounded on the West by land by Joel Fullar, on the North by Land owned by Benajah Dunham, on the east and south by Land owned by the said Goodale. Said Lot of Land comprising all the land owned by Asahel Booth, late of said Great Barrington, deceased, the said six tenth parts descended to the following persons as heirs at Law of the said Asahel deceased: David Booth, Asahel Booth, Joseph Booth, Ezra Booth, Sabra Booth, Levi Booth, and also all the right and title which I the said Levi and the said David, Asahel, Joseph, Esra, & Sabra now have in and to the real estate of said Asahel as heirs at Law. Excepting from said grant all the right to dower in and to said premises, owned by the Widow of said Asahel. Signed 13 Mar 1822, Levi Booth (seal). Witnessed by Moses Loomis(?) and Chas. Levenworth. Recorded Sept. 9, 1823 from the original. 6) Vol. 52, pg. 300: Asahel Booth, of Mt. Washington, buys from Silas Reed, 3 tracts of land, totalling over 26 acres.
