Since Ashe County was cut from Wilkes in 1799 and Abiud was on the 1800 Ashe Co, NC census, Asa would be expected to be born in Ashe County. The family had not moved from where they were in Wilkes County, but the new county of Ashe encompassed where they lived. It is assumed that his mother Rebecca died as a result of complications of childbirth, but that is just an assumption.
