Mr. and Mrs. Swanick first came to Killarney, Manitoba in early 1905, along with their youngest son Herman. First of the family to arrive in the Govan area was Fred Swanick, who came in 1903 and files on a homestead on NE 16-26-23-W2 in the Arlington Beach district. Sons Albert and Angus followed a year or two later. Angus files on NE 34-26-23 W2, and Albert on SE 22-26-23 W2. Their only other daughter, Mary Ann (Mrs. T.E. Horn) arrived with her infant son Gordon, in 1905. Her husband came earlier and files on NE 28-26-23 W2. Mr. & Mrs. Arthur Swanick came to the area about 1908 and filed on NE 26-26- W2. Mr. & Mrs. Swanick continued to live on the homestead until the time of their death; Mr. Swanick in 1928 at 91, and Mrs. Swanick in 1936 at 93. They were neighbourly and particularly loved by the younger people of the district. Mr. Swanick liked to walk, and walked the 7 miles to Cymric only a short time before his death. References
