[Armistead Hall's father, John P. Hall, died when Armistead was 9 years old. Following the death of John Hall, Armistead's mother hired herself out as a day laborer; she is listed living in the George Eddes family household as a day laborer in the 1860 census. Armistead is listed in the 1860 Federal census living with Martha (Hall) Worrell [Armistead's paternal aunt, sister to John P. Hall] and Peter Worrell household [dwelling 683/family 687]. Armistead hired himself out for farm work, showing up in the 1870 Federal census living/working in the John Gardner family household.]
