Obituary

Y. B. Hall Y. B. Hall Sr., a well-known Galax grocery merchant and Carroll County citizen, died in a Galax, Va., hospital about 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 28. He resided in Woodlawn. For many years he had operated a grocery store on East Old Town Street. Mr. Hall was born in Carroll County Sept 23, 1883, to the late Mrms. Armsted Hall. He was born in the Capp community a few miles south of Woodlawn, in which he operated a general merchandise store beginning in 1921 and continuing there until he moved to Galax in 1924. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Maude Hall; three daughters, Mrs. Gladys Cruise, Woodlawn, Mrs. Guyda Hedrick, Roanoke, and Mrs. Lynn Cochran; and one son, Y. B. Hall Jr., both of Woodlawn; a half-brother, Allan Hall of West Virginia and four half- sisters, Mrs. Amelia Burnett, Mount Airy, N.C.; Mrs. Iowa Coulson of West Virginia; Mrs. Minnie Bunn, Richmond; and Mrs. May Farmer, Galax; five grandchildren and one great grandson. Mr. Hall was a brother of the late John Hall of Kingston.
