Clarence Willliam Hickman letter dated 23 Apr 1994 "...we went to the Cline cemetery. If my guess is right, John Hickman's claim was at the intersection four miles south of Gate, where you turn east to go to the cemetery. If so, I think I can see why he might have abandoned the claim. The intersection is just south of the Beaver River, and at least the parts we could see of the four quarter-sections at the intersection were forlorn to say the least. None that we could see looked tillable -- small, but very steep sandhills with sagebrush on most of the land, some flat land on one quarter with water standing on much of it (apparently just from the underground water), and a generally desolate looking are. The cemetery itself is a desolate looking place. The enclosed photo doesn't really show how desolate it seemed. We did check out the markers in the cemetery in the hopes that Wayne Lewis (who did the cemetery research tht I sent earlier) had overlooked Arminta's marker, but of course he hadn't"
