Family reports indicate Ardora was teased at school about his name, ["Our Dora"] and he began using the nickname "Dode" for the remainder of his life. He signed documents as "A E RANSOM".

    The death certificate, #27881 Allen County, Indiana, lists his name as Ardora Edson Ransom, as reported by Robert Ransom (his son). He died 2 September 1937 at Lutheran Hospital, of "general sepsis" following a botched appendectomy.
