Archibaldus Bogle filius quondam Roberti Bogle Mercatoris Glasguensis natu maximus. Born 1730. Merchant in Glasgow. Died Port Glasgow 23mar1812. brother of 777, 1075, 1079, 1082, cousin of 911, 1229, father of 5200, father in law of 2537, uncle of 1946, 2327, 3791, grandfather of 5472, 5875, 6044, 6288, 6537, 8129, 9145, 10169, grand uncle of 5129, 9113, 10582, 11618, 11636. Scottish archives have the will of Archibald Bogle, land surveyor, res. Port Glasgow, reg. 1813, Glasgow (scotlandspeople). Archibald Baile BOGLE (1730-1812) married Janet Cathcart (information from R. Kelly, rootsweb worldconnect). A portrait of Archibald Bogle (1730-1812), 2nd son of Robert Bogle of Shettleston and Agnes (daughter of Sir Archibald Stewart of Blackhall) was lent to Old Glasgow Exhibition by Archibald Hamilton Donald, 8 Blythswood Sq. Archibald Bogle married Janet, daughter of Hugh Cathcart and Helen Wardrop (Exhibition catalogue). Janet Cathcart was b. 9feb1734 and chr 17feb1734 at Glasgow, daughter of Hugh Cathcart and Helen Woodrop (IGI). Archibald and Janet had the following children: F Helen BOGLE (4jan1758-1825) married John HAMILTON (b. 1754) (R. Kelly). Helen Bogle was born 25dec1757 and christened 4jan1758 at Glasgow, daughter of Archibald Bogle and Janet Cathcart (IGI). A portrait of Helen Bogle or Hamilton (1757-1825), daughter of Archibald Bogle of the Shettleston family, wife of John Hamilton of Northpark (1754-1829) was lent to Old Glasgow Exhibition 1894 by Mrs. Colin R. Dunlop, Torwoodhill, Row, Dunbartonshire (catalogue). Mrs. Dunlop was presumably Helen Bogle Hamilton. M Robert BOGLE was b. ?1756 and d. 1823. Robert of Gilmorehill (?11jun1756-1823) married (14aug1791, Greenock) Margaret BOGLE (26aug1768-2may1853), daughter of Michael Bogle (1734-1814) and Janet Scott (1745-1812) (R.. Kelly, rootsweb). Robert and Margaret had a child, Margaret Cathcart Bogle, who married Michael Scott (1789-1835) who wrote “Tom Cringle’s Log”. Margaret Cathcart Bogle’s mother, Margaret Bogle, was a cousin of Michael Scott; Margaret Cathcart Bogle married a cousin once removed. References
