Anna Tatko, 95, of Craigmont - The Lewiston Tribune: Northwest: obituary Posted: Friday, December 15, 2000 12:00 am

Anna Tatko, a longtime Craigmont homemaker, died of causes related to age Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital in Cottonwood. She was 95.

Anna was born Sept. 20, 1905, in Klein Lomnitz, Slovakia, to John and Anna Faix Pieger. In 1908, she came to the United States with her parents and settled in Fullerton, Pennsylvania. In 1913, she, along with her mother and younger brother, returned to Austria-Hungary to care for her grandmother who was ill. While there, World War I started and the family was forced to remain in that country until 1920.

After returning to the United States, Anna went to work in the silk mills and later in a cigar factory in Fullerton. She became quite adept at making cigars and one day rolled 1,100 cigars.

On Jan. 14, 1926, she married Jacob Tatko in Catasaqua, Pennsylvania. They moved to Idaho and settled on a farm 1½ miles southwest of Craigmont. There, Jake and Anna farmed and raised their four children. They moved into Craigmont in 1968. Jake died Jan. 3, 1981.

Anna enjoyed gardening, especially raising flowers. Baking was a large part of her life. Her pecan tarts were always the "big hit" at church functions and the grandkids could always be assured there were cookies in the cupboard. When it came to needlework, crocheting afghans was her specialty. Visiting with her family and friends meant so much to her.

She was a member of the United Church of Craigmont and the United Church Women's Association.

Anna is survived by two sons, two daughters, 15 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Alfred Pieger.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the United Church of Craigmont. Burial will follow at the Craigmont City Cemetery.
