Ann Walton was born in 1840 at Great Hale in Lincolnshire, daughter of Elizabeth Walton, formerly Ward, and her husband Robert Walton, a shepherd. Ann appears in both the 1841 and 1851 censuses living with her parents and siblings in Great Hale. In 1861 she had gone to work as a servant for a farmer in the neighbouring parish of Heckington. By 1871 she had returned to live with her parents in Great Hale, and was working as a dressmaker.
On 15th April 1878, aged 37, Ann married Tom Newton at Great Hale. He was eleven years her junior. They do not appear to have had any children.
Both the 1881 and 1891 censuses find Tom and Ann living at Quarrington on the edge of the town of Sleaford. Tom made his living as a threshing machine proprietor. In 1881, Ann's nephew Benjamin was living with them, and in 1891, Ann's niece Annie Walton was living with them. Back in Great Hale, Ann's parents both died in February 1889; her mother on 1st February and her father on 27th February.
Ann died in 1893, aged 53. She was buried back at her native parish of Great Hale on 11th November 1893. Tom survived her by nearly 30 years. He remarried three years after her death.
